Import the walks you already made

Every Street can count the walks you made before you installed it. Connect Apple Health on iPhone or Health Connect on Android, or import your Strava bulk export, your Google Timeline and GPX, TCX or FIT files from almost any running or hiking app. The files are read on your phone and nothing is uploaded.

Before you start

Apple Health (iPhone)

  1. In Every Street, open You › Import › Apple Health and tap Connect Apple Health.
  2. Allow Every Street to read and write workouts and workout routes.
  3. Your walks, hikes and runs with a route come in, and every walk you record from now on is saved to Apple Health.

It stays in sync while connected. Walks from any app that saves routes to Apple Health, such as Apple’s Workout app on the Apple Watch, come in this way.

Health Connect (Android)

  1. In Every Street, open You › Import and tap Connect Health Connect.
  2. Allow Every Street to read exercise routes. Health Connect asks you for each walk from another app before it shares its route.

Strava

Strava’s bulk export contains all your activities as GPX and FIT files.

  1. On strava.com, open your account settings and request your archive (under downloading or deleting your account; this doesn’t delete anything).
  2. Strava emails you a link to a ZIP file. Download it to your phone.
  3. In Every Street, open You › Import › Import GPS Files and pick the ZIP file.

Google Maps Timeline

Since December 2023 Google keeps the Timeline on your phone rather than online, so you export it from the Google Maps app:

  1. Open the Google Maps app and tap your profile picture.
  2. Tap Your Timeline, then the menu in the top right, then Location & privacy settings.
  3. Tap Export Timeline data and save the file.
  4. In Every Street, open You › Import › Import from Google Timeline and pick it.

Older Location History from Google Takeout works too.

GPX, TCX and FIT files

Most apps that record walks, runs or hikes can export GPX, TCX or FIT files: Garmin, AllTrails, Komoot, Runkeeper, MapMyRun, adidas Running, Polar, Suunto, COROS and Ride with GPS, among others. Save the files to your phone and pick them under You › Import › Import GPS Files.

What happens next

Each imported walk goes through the same matching as a live walk, and the streets it covered light up on your map. Walks from before you installed Every Street fill in your map right away, so you can see how much of your city you’ve already done and plan the rest.

Questions

Can I import my Strava activities?

Yes, through Strava’s bulk export: request your archive in Strava’s account settings on the web, download the ZIP file Strava sends you, and pick it in Every Street under You › Import. There is no live Strava connection, because that would need a server, and Every Street has none.

Can I import my Google Maps Timeline?

Yes. In the Google Maps app, open Your Timeline, then Location & privacy settings, and export your Timeline data to a file. Pick that file in Every Street. Older Location History from Google Takeout works too.

Do imported walks count for leaderboards?

No. Imported walks light up your streets and districts, but only walks recorded with Every Street count for crews and leaderboards, so everyone competes on the same terms.

Can I import a planned route?

No. Routes drawn in a route planner have no timestamps and weren’t walked, so they don’t count. Only recorded activities can be imported.
