Melbourne’s centre is a neat rectangle with a second city hidden inside it. The Hoddle Grid covers the big streets from Flinders Street to La Trobe Street, Little Streets finds their narrow twins such as Little Collins and Little Bourke, and Laneway Explorer ducks into the lanes and arcades in between, past places like Hosier Lane.
Beyond the grid, twelve councils spread along the Yarra and around the bay, from Brunswick Street to Acland Street in St Kilda. Across the Yarra counts the bridges, the Capital City Trail loops the inner city, and Four Seasons in One Day takes care of the weather. Your suburb is the place to start.
