Chicago is a grid you can navigate by numbers. South of the Loop the streets count upwards, eight blocks to a mile, and Numbered Streets follows them; Mind the Place catches the half-streets tucked in between, like 23rd Place between 23rd and 24th Street. It is a city made for methodical walkers.

Across the Chicago River crosses the movable bridges of the Main Branch, The Riverwalk follows the south bank, and the Lakefront Trail runs along Lake Michigan.   • Across the Chicago River

    Chicago has more movable bridges than any other city. Cross all nine on the Main Branch, from Columbus Drive to Orleans Street.

  • Lakefront Trail

    Follow the Lakefront Trail along Lake Michigan, 18 miles of shore from Edgewater to South Shore.

  • The Riverwalk

    Walk the Chicago Riverwalk on the south bank of the river, from the lake to Lake Street.
