Boston packs a lot into a small, walkable space, and most of it rewards slowing down. The Freedom Trail’s red line leads you from Boston Common to the Bunker Hill Monument. The Back Bay Alphabet has you tick off Arlington to Hereford in order, and Boston Squares sends you from Louisburg Square on Beacon Hill all the way to Harvard Square.

Because the map takes in Cambridge as well, Across the Charles becomes part of the game, and the HarborWalk strings the waterfront together from Charlestown to Dorchester. Pick a neighborhood, start with Acorn Street or Newbury Street, and watch it fill in.
