Manchester’s streets tell you where the city came from. Worker Bee counts its Streets, many of them lined with red-brick terraces, and Folds and Brows finds the old Lancashire names for yards of cottages and roads up a hillside. Deansgate End to End follows the line of the old Roman road from Castlefield to the cathedral.
The map takes in Salford too, so Across the Irwell is part of the walk, and the Irwell Sculpture Trail leads you up the river from the Quays. Then there is Wilmslow Road, from the Curry Mile out to Didsbury. Start in your own end, and let the rain count towards Rainy City Walker.
